The Oligopoly of Academic Publishers in the Digital Era published by Vincent Larivière, Stefanie Haustein and Philippe Mongeon last June in PLOS ONE, is one of the most discussed and shared papers of 2015. The article generated many reactions in the media since its publication, as its position in the Altmetric Top 100 reveals. Results presented in the paper demonstrate an oligopoly situation in academic publishing as five companies control more than half of scholarly communication.
